Pilgrim Stories: On and Off the Road to Santiago

Description

Pilgrim Stories: On and Off the Road to Santiago is Nancy Frey’s collection of writings based on her interviews with those who have undertaken the Camino de Santiago/ Way of St. James. Her research among pilgrims addresses how and why people embark on the journey in the first place, searching for the past, nature, self, solitude, friendship, austerity and adventure. Frey looks at the spectacular and surprising explosion of popularity in the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, shedding light not only on the route itself but also revealing a growing spiritual frustration and late twentieth-century nostalgia for premodern society.
